Lia had a check-up last Thursday and Wai Po came with us to the doctor (thank goodness!). Her latest stats: 33.5 inches tall (75-90th percentile) and 24 lbs (50th percentile). She got two shots and Wai Po held her while the doctor gave her one in each leg. As expected, the screaming was deafening. With the second shot, she kicked out her leg as the needle went in, dislodging it from her leg and causing blood to get all over her thigh. The doctor had to jab her a second time, poor thing. I hope enough of the vaccine went in to be effective!
The doctor put Band-Aids on the shot sites, but the screaming continued, albeit slightly more subdued as we left the exam room and went to the waiting area, but didn't completely stop until we were clear of the doctor's office and in the hallway.
Once we were home, she would periodically look down, see her Band-Aids and remember the trauma that she had experienced. She then pointed to one of the Band-Aids and gave us her best fake cry. Then she would get hugs and kisses from me or Wai Po and be off playing again, laughing, running -- until she looked down again and saw the Band-Aids (she was pantsless because there was no way she was going to let us put her pants on in the doctor's office and we just had to get her out of there ASAP). When Jeff got home, she had a fresh audience from which to get sympathy and hugs and she put on quite a performance for him. Our little drama queen. Compare and contrast to Ian's experience at the doctor.
